ABOUT VP STUDIOS

IAN BELSEY: ARTIST - SINGER - TEACHER

I became interested in art at a very young age, and showed an aptitude for drawing and painting which was well in advance of my years.

At secondary school I had the good fortune to be tutored by Owen Frampton, an inspirational and adept Commercial Artist, who trained me in all aspects of Graphic & Commercial art, specialising in Stage Design which, after taking my Art and Art History ‘A’ Level examinations, won me two scholarships to two established art colleges, as well as a brief spell in Florence, studying the art of the Renaissance. After returning to England, I decided not to actively pursue a career in art but to take a place at music college, as I had been singing professionally since the age of eight.

Having spent many years in the music business as a successful singer, art came back into the frame, and with the suggestion of a colleague who asked for a portrait, I began to paint again. I am self-taught – indeed, I consider this a bonus, as experimentation can be the key to successful work, and an interesting journey on which to travel.

Portraiture, architecture (especially of the theatrical kind), and delvings into abstraction and pop art hold my interest, but you’ll find my portfolio is full of different styles, and mostly bold and colourful.

Please enjoy looking at the works on view, and if anybody is looking for a commission, please do not hesitate to contact me via my contact page.

I look forward to meeting you all!
